Ontario Workplace Posting Requirements Checklist
Post these in a highly visible area of your workplace
This checklist summarizes the posters and notices required by law in Ontario for most small business workplaces. Post these documents in a visible, accessible area such as a break room, entrance, or safety board. This helps you stay compliant and inspection-ready under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and other regulations.
✅ Health & Safety at Work: Prevention Starts Here poster — Required in all OHSA-covered workplaces. Must be posted in English and the majority language spoken.
✅ Full copy of the Occupational Health and Safety Act — Must be posted in a visible location for all workers to access.
✅ Names and work locations of Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members — Required for workplaces with 20 or more workers. For 6–19 workers, post the name of the health and safety representative.
✅ Occupational Health and Safety Policy — Must be posted and reviewed annually if the business has 5 or more regular employees.
✅ Workplace Violence Policy — Must be posted and reviewed annually if the business has 5 or more regular employees.
✅ Workplace Harassment Policy — Must be posted and reviewed annually if the business has 5 or more regular employees.
✅ 'In Case of Injury at Work' (Form 82 – WSIB) poster — Must be posted in all WSIB-covered workplaces.
✅ No Smoking / No Vaping signs — Required under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act at entrances, exits, and washrooms.
✅ Ministry of Labour inspection orders or compliance notices — Must be posted immediately when issued.
✅ Designated Substance Notices (if applicable) — If you work with designated substances, post related exposure info.
✅ Emergency contact numbers and location of first aid kits/SDS — Expected by inspectors; not specifically mandated but strongly recommended
